Broadening Horizons with 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering

3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering technology has developed drastically in recent years, both in terms of capability and affordability, meaning the technology has become much more accessible in a huge range of industries.

As part of our work with Shining3D and Einscan, we hold regular workshops up and down the country to carry out comprehensive reverse engineering demonstrations as well as allow attendees to get hands on with the technology and have a go at scanning their own parts. In the past month we have ran two very successful and well-attended workshops in the North East and Northern Ireland, and one thing that we were particularly interested in was the sheer variety of industries and applications represented in the attendees.

It seems that more and more people are realising that 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering is a viable solution for their business. It can address a huge range of challenges, vastly improve existing processes and workflows, and ultimately open up brand new markets and generate a lot of business. Here's just a few examples of how 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering is being used by our workshop attendees:

  • Classic car restoration - Using Einscan HX 3D Scanner to Reverse Engineer legacy parts to attain CAD data to reproduce parts that are no longer being manufactured and bring car back to life.

  • Composite repair work - Attendees from industries such as the oil and gas, and the aerospace and automotive sectors are utilizing the technology to verify repair work and reduce costs and turnaround times.

  • Inspection - Inspecting of manufactured parts against CAD data to highlight any issues in manufacturing workflows and support quality control.

  • Aftermarket part manufacturing

  • Visual merchandising - A range of business such as property developers, interior designers and kitchen manufacturers are using 3D scanning to produce accurate renderings of their work to promote their products to potential customer in their visual marketing and online channels.

  • Historical artifacts - Museums, archaeologists and other related professionals have used Einscan products to document and catalogue ancient and unique historical artifacts for replica production and interactive exhibitions.
